Objectives
Building on this background, the objectives of the workshop are to
- To take stock of the first two years of implementation of the Kenyan ABS regulations as contained in the Environmental Management and Coordination (Conservation of Biological Diversity and Resources, Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing) Regulations, 2006. Practical experiences of relevant Kenyan stakeholders, lessons learned from the research project of FEU on the legal and socio-political aspects of ABS.
- To define more narrowly roles within implementation of Kenyan ABS regulations, in particular: Distinguishing between commercial and non-commercial research, distinguishing between institutional and individual research and enforcing compliance
- And, through the exchange of experiences as regards implementation challenges, to propose practical solutions and the way forward for implementation.
